Special Clinics

Special Clinics and Seminars.

The Jennings School of Karate is affiliated to some excellent people and organisations such as those listed below providing opportunities for students to attend interesting and informative clinics and seminars.

  1. O'Sensei Masami Tsuruoka is well known as the "Father of Canadian Karate". He is also our Sensei and it is he who chairs the examinations for our students to grade to black belt. O'Sensei has made several visits to our dojo to teach our students the fundamentals of his system/style of karate. We are honoured by these visits and always look forward to the next one.
  2. Sensei Ted Jungblut was one of Canada's top competitors, and he has a teaching style that challenges and inspires. He has an incredible insight in the study of karate. He has been our Sensei for many years and Sensei Jennings feels that it is his influence that has played a key role in the development of our philosophies and our teaching approach at the Jennings School of Karate. Sensei Jungblut comes to the dojo every June for our brown belt grading and during the same day runs a special clinic. We try to get Sensei Jungblut in at least twice per year.
  3. Karate Ontario is the sport governing body for karate in Ontario, and from time to time brings in guests to head seminars open to Karate Ontario members. Students of Jennings School of Karate are members of Karate Ontario and are eligible for these events. Past guests have included World champions Luca Valdesi and Elisa Au, master coach Antonio Olivia Seba, and WKF referee council member Javier Mantilla.
  4. Team Ontario coaches organise special training for those athletes who qualify for the Ontario team in preparation for the Canadian Championships. This training incorporates a variety of guests and topics from within our own organisation. Sensei Jennings is currently the Head Coach of the Ontario Team.
  5. Ryukyu Kobudo the ancient art of Okinawan weapononry is taught twice a month in special classes by Sensei Peter Giffen. Classes are open to students green belt and up,  these classes are not part of the regular karate curriculum and are subject to an additional cost of $15 per class. Anyone interested joining kobudo classes please see Sensei Jim or Chris Moran.
